    1. Earthquake reconnaissance Surveys
      • VMS has been actively involved in many reconnaissance surveys of recent earthquakes.
      • Mr R D Chaudhari was part of the delegation form Mumbai to help tag hundreds of buildings in Ahmedabad as Red, Yellow, Green (Unsafe to Safe) in the aftermath of the Bhuj 2001 earthquake
      • Alpa Sheth was Lead, Reconnaissance Survey team for the Survey of Mainland India after the Great Sumatra earthquake in 2004 as part of the team sponsored by DST, Govt. of India

      • She was also member of the Expert team of NDMA for reconnaissance of the Sikkim Earthquake on 2011. To read the report, Click here
      • Member of the World Bank-EERI Expert team for Review of knowledge notes emerging from the 2011 Great East Japan EarthquakePost earthquake surveys after Bhuj 2001 earthquake and post reconstruction surveys on behalf of Govt. of Gujarat (GSDMA)
      • Lead” for the Mainland India Tsunami survey in January 2006 in the Tsunami survey sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. Of India
    2. Participation in Bureau of Indian Standards Code Committees
      VMS invests its time and resources to participate in code making committees of the BIS.  VMS Alpa Sheth (alt.  R D Chaudhari) is member of CED 39 (Earthquake Code Committee)   and CED 57, Cyclone Resistant Structures Sectional Committee.
    3. SEFI- Alpa Sheth is co-founder of “Structural Engineers Forum of India -SEFI” (www.sefindia.org). SEFI has emerged as the leading forum for structural engineers (Membership >14000) to share their knowledge, concerns and experiences to improve the safety of built habitat.  VMS provides pro-bono all the support required for administering the site.
    4. Teaching- VMS encourages its engineers to participate as visiting faculty in Engineering and Architecture College. Presently four VMS staff teaches courses on structures as visiting faculty in “Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies”.
    5. Education- VMS has been consistently supporting educational endeavors for the mofussil regions of India. It has provided free engineering consulting services for rural school and has also built a school for 300 school children (Class V to X) along with the family trust of its patrons.
